Sandra Van Opstal, a Chicago-born, second-generation Latina, is a worship leader who is passionate about creating atmospheres where people of different cultures can come together in peace to experience the presence and power of God.
Sandra graduated from Millikin University with a degree in Music Business/Vocal Performance in 1996. After working briefly as a business consultant, Sandra answered the call to campus ministry, and she spent the next ten years serving with InterVarsity as a campus staff and team leader at Northwestern University. She currently serves as the Director of InterVarsity’s Chicago Urban Program. In addition to her role as Urbana 09 worship leader, Sandra has led as part of multiethnic worship at CHIC (Evangelical Covenant Denomination’s Youth Conference), and Willow Creek Association conferences. She recently published an article on the topic of Multiethnic Worship for The Narthex, a publication of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Sandra is currently working towards her master’s degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She and her husband, Karl, enjoy living in Chicago. |
